Everybody is welcome, regardless of financial circumstances. Just pick the time slot that fits best for you.
10a--8p -- Volunteers: Please come help any hours that you can.
1--6p -- Shoppers: $10 per crate.
You can put up to 5 units of food in each crate.
6--7p -- Gleaners and Farmers: Come get our leftovers!
1:00 - 6:00
Grab n Go
1:00-4:00 - $2 per unit, further discounts given for bulk and/or first-timer.* Round up to the nearest $10.
4:00-5:00 - $1 per unit. Round up to the nearest $5.
Both times, shop by crate: 1 crate = 5 units.
*Bulk and first-timer discounts: Bulk ("Sponsors") special - 30 units or more:
- If you are new OR bring somebody new, then you each donate only $30 for 30 units.
- If you are a returning customer and do NOT bring somebody new, then you donate $50 for 30 units.
Cashapp, Venmo, or cash only.
If paying by Cashapp or Venmo:
Put your shopper number that day as a comment on your payment.
If paying by cash:
Bills accepted: $20s, $10s, $5s.
No large bills; no $100s, No $50s.
No small bills; no $1s.
Line order is determined by time of donation.
5:00 - 5:30
Gleaners
If you can donate just a couple of dollars, or are unable to donate at all due to financial hardship, come get food during this time.
Please also volunteer some of your time to help if you can! Here is an opportunity to do this thing (feed your family while reducing waste) even if you cannot afford to donate much money.
5:30 - 6:00
Farmers
If you have livestock to feed or you want to add compost to your garden beds or planting fields, come during this time to get the leftovers.
Want to reserve an earlier spot in line?
Prepay at any time during the week, Sunday or later, to get your name on the list for the following Saturday.
$10 is the minimum to prepay ... but please pay more than enough to cover what you will probably spend at FoodCommune the following Saturday. This forethought and generosity on your part will save you and us the time of doing a second (day-of) transaction. If you end up getting less food on Saturday than your pre-payment covered, then we can give you the difference in cash when you check out, or better yet, tell us to keep the change! Every donation helps to pay our operating expenses so that we can continue doing this important work of diverting food from landfills to people. Thank you.
When making your prepayment, please include a comment to specify:
1) First name and last initial of person for whom you are donating, and
2) Optional -- First name and last initial of first-timer that you are introducing to FoodCommune.
Example:
You make a $30 donation with the comment “Joe S, bringing new person Margaret R”
And Margaret puts this comment w her $30 donation:
“Margaret R, new person with Joe S”
Prepayments are non-transferable and non-refundable; thus, you should submit your prepayment only at that point in the week when you know for sure that you will be able to attend that following Saturday. Prepayments ARE transferable to another person.
Line order is determined by time of donation.
What's the deal with bulk discounts?
Sponsors/bulk shoppers - You donate a $30 "cover charge" BEFORE selecting your food units ($50 "cover charge" if you do not bring anybody new with you that week), max 30 units.
Normal FoodCommune price for 30 units would be $60, so you save $30 by shopping in bulk AND by being/bringing a newbie.
If you are a returning customer and you do NOT bring somebody new, then you pay $50 and get 30 units. Normal FoodCommune price for 30 units would be $60. so you save $10 by shopping in bulk.
For all bulk shoppers, new or returning, any additional units above 30 units will be the usual price of $2 or $1/unit.
